Pour Le Bebe

I'm too superstitious to order lots of personalized stuff for Baby Icing before she arrives, but I'm pretty sure we have both of her names all picked out. (Don't worry - although I live in LA, there will be no Staten Island or Queens Icing here - we are going with family names!) That said, I found these adorable monogrammed little outfits at http://www.monogramz.com/
How cute is this sleep sack for your little burrito?

And, I love these little bloomers for the girls! How tiny and adorable!
But really, it's the sleep gown that I love the most. Once Baby Icing arrives safely, and I can stop worrying so much, I'm definitely going to order some stuff. But, in case you are less superstitious, or you need gifts for newly arrived babies, this might be worth a shot!

Things Pregnant People Like When They Can't Take Cold Medications

I have a horrid cold. I went to bed feeling stuffy and achy, and woke up with a throat that was really sore and almost no voice. So, I stayed home sick. Being sick stinks, but being sick when you can't take any of the good medications stinks even more. That said, I'm feeling a lot better this evening, and here are the things that helped out (other than getting to lie on the couch, and read my briefs/cases in peace and quiet at home)!

Orange juice. Honestly, I haven't really been crazy about it since getting pregnant, but it does help to sip on it - and it always tastes good when I'm sick.

This tea. I drank two pots - about 8 small cups - over today so far, and it's delicious enough to drink plain, without any honey or sugar. Which, when I'm sick, I don't always like sugar in my tea. Oddly, that doesn't mean that I don't want cookies with the tea, but I just don't like sugar in hot drinks when I'm sick.

I couldn't find an image of the chicken noodle soup, but I'm in love. It's really good, and much less salt than the original. I generally think reduced sodium is sort of disgusting, but salt is on the list of things pregnant people are supposed to be careful about, so I'm trying to eat less of it. This is delicious, and I'm going to make Mr. Icing pick up some more on the way home from work.

Any suggestions for other non-druggy cold remedies? I still have to drag myself to work tomorrow morning...

Public Service Announcement

Crane's is doing their annual sale on personalized stationary...I bought these last year, and am going to re-order. They have lots of lovely things!

Imaginary Adventures

Today was a bad day. So, I'm pretending that I'm going here, and eating gelato. Preferably hazelnut.
I'll be wearing these sensible, but chic slides, and I think they'll work just as nicely for viewing historic homes in Maine as they would traipsing around Rome!

Every summer when I was little, we would rent a cottage in Kennebunkport ME, with my family...and we would always drive by the wedding cake house pictured above. A sea captain built it for his wife, to make up for apparently sailing out right after their wedding ceremony and before they could cut the cake!

I also these shoes would work while enjoying a cocktail or a nice glass of rose at my favorite hotel in Santa Barbara, the Bacara. Sun, sea, and that gorgeous pool...sigh. This is the place I have the best shot of visiting this coming summer, because it's only about 90 minutes from LA, and might be a good place for a long weekend with Baby Icing.

This dress would go with all of the options and I think it would work perfectly in each location. I may just break down and buy it now, because I just really don't want to wear maternity clothing anymore. I feel like the snake in the Little Prince who has eaten an elephant. I'll look for that image!
And, don't you agree that the shoes are flat and perfectly sensible for viewing historic homes, enjoying a cocktail overlooking the Pacific and traipsing around Rome eating gelato?
Side note, I have a cold, am pregnant and it's going to rain here tomorrow. Blech.

A Strange Creature Indeed

That strange creature would be me, the pregnant lawyer making a court appearance. I don't normally go to court, but needed to cover a hearing for a colleague. Unlike lots of people who can get away with the casual side of business casual, I really needed a nice pregnancy suit. Actually, the suit pants are the only maternity work pants I own (because I am ALWAYS in a dress), but the suit is surprisingly cute. I got it from A Pea in the Pod, and while it was not cheap, I think it was well worth the money- because the jacket I got (not this identical one), is actually pretty darn cute with a tee shirt and jeans.
I'm happy to report that this strange little pregnant creature had an excellent hearing, and returned to the office unscathed!

I Heart Emily Post!

I love biographies! And, I love Emily Post! Etiquette is one of the best reference books ever written. I think manners make everyone around you comfortable, and love her down to earth approach to them (and the thoughtful updates to reflect modern day situations). So, imagine my suprise to discover that Mrs. Post was involved in turn of the last century scandals involving a philandering husband and a divorce! I'm only about 30 pages in, but it's great so far. I highly recommend it!

Weekend Wrap Up

First off, a big thank you to Mrs. Preppy and Jessica for emailing me recipes! I was a little tired on Sunday, so I ended up being lazy and just going with pizza and wings with cupcakes, but since I have the fixings, look for posts on artichoke spinach dip and blue cheese biscuits! The red velvet cupcakes were a big hit, and between 20 people, we ate 6 large pizzas and almost 100 wings!

My Junior League project went well, although we have a couple of really high energy kids this semester. Plus, I had forgotten how hard it is to start those woven "god's eye" projects...and I had to make a lot of them. I came home wiped out, but happy to discover that the guest bed had disappeared and the Salvation Army picked up an old TV and nightstand. I'll start taking nursery pictures soon...it's very much a work in progress, but we are getting the furniture delivered this Saturday.
We had great turnout on Sunday, and even though I was tired at the end of the night, it was well worth it! It may be our last before Baby Icing arrives, so I'm glad it went well!
